WISCASSET, Maine, March 29, 2009 -- As school district consolidation takes effect in Maine, coastal Wiscasset High School is reaching into new geographic territory to recruit students who can choose where they attend high school. The students Wiscasset is after live, in some cases, more than an hour's drive from the school. But consolidation has put the towns in the same, sprawling district. See story.

AUGUSTA, Maine, Nov. 26, 2008 -- A parking lot at Augusta's Glenridge Gardens apartment complex flooded following downpours Tuesday. The flooding rendered 16 apartments inaccessible by means other than rowboat or a trek through a foot-and-a-half of water. A contractor was at work Wednesday pumping out the parking lot.

AUGUSTA, Maine, Oct. 10, 2008 -- Students and staff members at the University of Maine at Augusta appeared to welcome news that student housing is in the offing at the commuter campus. The addition could lead to a livelier campus community while helping a substantial portion of the student body cut commuting costs, UMA students said.

AUGUSTA, Maine, Sept. 4, 2008 -- The nursing program at the University of Maine at Augusta is settling into a new central location on campus in the rear of the Augusta Civic Center. In January, the program will expand to offer a bachelor's degree in nursing. Kennebec Journal reporter Matthew Stone speaks with Nancy Cooley, the coordinator of UMA's nursing program.
